The Dance of Tennis

Over the past couple weeks, site coordinators from 21 LA's BEST sites were selected to join the Dance of Tennis and ultimately start tennis programs as their induvidual sites.

The purpose of The Dance of Tennis training is to introduce tennis to children in a revolutionary, exciting new way-a way that children love, but that also promotes nonviolence and teaches valuable life skills at the same time.

BEST Friends and its volunteers bring a garden to Grape Street!

When students at Grape Street Elementary in Watts return to school on Monday, they will be surprised to see that part of their outdoor space has been transformed into an edible garden and outdoor learning center.  On Friday, March 7th, 2014, from 3:00 TO 5:30 pm, thirty-five members of BEST Friends, the young professionals board of LA's BEST, will stain and drill wood to build picnic tables, park benches and garden boxes, add soil, dig holes, and plant over 70 native and edible plants at Grape Street Elementary.

Young astronauts lost in space must overcome fighting and bullying to get back home to earth.  

A spoken word and modern dance piece to Heavy In Your Arms, encourages self-love and identity.

The girls take on the boys in a classic dance-battle and realize it’s okay to be different.

Citywide Events

freSH START raises over $100,000 for ASAP!

On Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 11:30 a.m in the Mayor’s Executive Conference Room, Cris McCall and Audrey Hanneman, co-chairs of fresh stART, a popular one-night art show and fundraising event, presented LA’s BEST after school enrichment program with a check for $119,000. LA’s BEST was the sole beneficiary of fresh StART, an event organized by the McCall Family Foundation to support programs that provide arts-related opportunities to at-risk students.
