Meet our new President & CEO, Eric!

LA's BEST would like to welcome back Eric Gurna, our new President & CEO.

Eric comes to LA's BEST with years of after school experience. He founded the firm Development Without Limits in 2000 with the vision of supporting youth programs and schools to improve the quality of their work and create more youth-centered environments. He led the organization until January of 2015, when he accepted his current position at LA’s BEST, a partnership between the City of Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Unified School District and the private sector that operates in 195 schools.

Now, you be may wondering why we are welcoming Eric back to LA's BEST. Well, he actually has previously served at the organization as the very first Director of Staff Development.

What better way to learn a little more about Eric than to feature him in this week's "People We're Proud Of!"

A Look Back at the LA Dodgers

A Look Back at the LA Dodgers
By Ashley B.

The Dodgers were the first Major League Baseball team to ever play in Los Angeles. The team moved from Brooklyn to Los Angeles and on April 18, 1958, the Dodgers played their first LA game. The Dodgers defeated the former New York Giants (now the San Francisco Giants) 6-5.

The famous Dodger’s catcher Roy Campanula was never able to play in Los Angeles. He was in a car accident and left partially paralyzed in an accident be-fore the first LA. game. The Dodgers first played in the L.A. Memorial Coliseum and then in 1962, on Opening Day, the team moved to the newly con-structed Dodgers Stadium.

Since moving to Los Angeles, the Dodgers have won nine more National Leagues and five World Series rings.

Some teams have nick-names that they use in games; many call them The Blue Crew.

The Dodgers are members of the National League West Division of Major League Baseball. The current manager is Don Mattingly.

LA's BEST Launches #GetOnTheBusLA Campaign!

One of the distinctions of LA’s BEST is the experiences we make happen for our kids through field trips. For most of our children the destinations are to places that our students may not ever get to visit if it were not for the adventures we make happen. We have taken a quarter of a million children on trips throughout our history.

Unfortunately, this year's transportation funding has been slashed, preventing us from continuing to take children on field trips. We know these experiences change their lives and broaden their awareness of possibilities.
