Candy Spelling to receive the Children's Champion Award

LA's BEST is proud to introduce one of our 2015 Family Dinner Honorees, Candy Spelling. Candy will be presented with the "Children's Champion Award" for her longtime dedication and commitment to the children of LA's BEST After School Program.

TV star, producer, author, philanthropist, wife, mother, designer, author, blogger—Candy Spelling has performed more roles than the busiest actresses in her beloved Los Angeles, becoming one of the city’s most iconic women in the process.

That's a wrap! The '14-'15 school year comes to an end.

As the 2014-2015 school year comes to an end, LA's BEST staff gathered for a final joint meeting last week. The all staff meetings include Site Coordinators, Travelling Staff, as well as members from both the Operations office and the Corporate Office.

The 24th Annual Dance & Drill Team Showcase

They came. They danced. They rocked!

LA's BEST recently held the 24th Annual Dance & Drill Team Showcase!

More than 3,600 LA’s BEST students from 193 elementary schools gathered in the gymnasium on the campus of Cal State L.A. on May 9th and May 16th to showcase drill team and dance performances which had been polished through hundreds of hours of hard work and dedication.

A Surprise on The Ellen Show

Our LA's BEST Site Coordinator at Limerick Elementary, Mayra Castillo recently attended The Ellen DeGeneres Show. But Mayra had no idea what would happen next...

Ellen surprised her by bringing her onstage for a moving tribute to her work with young people at LA's BEST, as well as her work with kids with special needs during the regular school day.

Ellen, with the help of Shutterfly, also acknowledged Mayra's dedication with a very generous gift...

In honor of Earth Day, LA’s BEST students at Kingsley Elementary installed a native garden on their campus with help from our President & CEO Eric Gurna, LA City Councilmember Mitch O’Farrell, and the Theodore Payne Foundation for Wildflowers and Native Plants.

Who says kids are selfish?

Throughout the past weekend, millions of generous kids will be celebrated. All over the world.

On Friday, LA’s BEST After school Enrichment Program joined thousands of organizations in more than 100 countries by observing Global Youth Service Day—the world’s largest service event that focuses on mobilizing the millions of young people who improve their communities through service. LA’s BEST proudly recognized 1,400 students who engaged in community service to better Los Angeles.

Over 70 LA's BEST Students Participate in the Celebrate Science Fair

LA’s BEST hosted its 24th Annual Celebrate Science Fair at California State University of Los Angeles. The Celebrate Science Fair is the culmination of the LA’s BEST Celebrate Science Program, which encourages students to discover, explore, and develop an appreciation for the world of science.

This year’s event, hosted by Belma Michael Johnson, former television host and current Vice President of Communications for LA’s BEST, featured Noel Ellis of Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems and Luz Rivas of DIY Girls, as Keynote Speakers.
