There is nothing sweeter than being surrounded by your family for a night filled with celebration, joy, and happiness.
That is exactly how the LA’s BEST family felt on Saturday, June 27, 2015 when honoring Candy Spelling, Albertsons & The Vons Foundation, William S. White & the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, and So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD). The event featured a silent and live auction, as well as a Lexus Hybrid Car Raffle, and ultimately raised $670,000 for LA’s BEST After School Program and over 25,000 children served across Los Angeles. The event marked the first fundraising dinner under the leadership of new President & CEO Eric Gurna.
Our final honoree will have you dancing! LA's BEST is excited to be recognizing So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) for inspiring our students to live their dreams since 2008.
SYTYCD, a competitive dance television show created by Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller, inspires and amazes viewers across America as talented dancers skilled in everything from Hip Hop, Krumping and Popping to Salsa, Quickstep and Jive compete to be named America’s Favorite Dancer. Hosted by Cat Deeley, SYTYCD travels across the country, in search of dancers who represent the best in America. Those who shine during auditions are given “callbacks,” where they work with top choreographers to learn and to be judged on multiple styles of dance.
At the LA's BEST Family Dinner on June 27, we will be recognizing outstanding supporters that help make LA's BEST After School possible. We are pleased to announce that that receiving the Foundation Partner Award will be William S. White and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
Over the years, Albertsons & The Vons Foundation has supported LA's BEST by dedicating funds and volunteers towards our garden and BEST Fit programs. Their commitment to our children and building a healthier community is one of the reasons why we will be recognizing them in June with the Community Partner Award.
LA's BEST is proud to introduce one of our 2015 Family Dinner Honorees, Candy Spelling. Candy will be presented with the "Children's Champion Award" for her longtime dedication and commitment to the children of LA's BEST After School Program.
TV star, producer, author, philanthropist, wife, mother, designer, author, blogger—Candy Spelling has performed more roles than the busiest actresses in her beloved Los Angeles, becoming one of the city’s most iconic women in the process.
As the 2014-2015 school year comes to an end, LA's BEST staff gathered for a final joint meeting last week. The all staff meetings include Site Coordinators, Travelling Staff, as well as members from both the Operations office and the Corporate Office.
LA's BEST recently held the 24th Annual Dance & Drill Team Showcase!
More than 3,600 LA’s BEST students from 193 elementary schools gathered in the gymnasium on the campus of Cal State L.A. on May 9th and May 16th to showcase drill team and dance performances which had been polished through hundreds of hours of hard work and dedication.
The 6th annual CYCLE 4 LA’s BEST fundraising event took place over the weekend at Esperanza Elementary on April 26th, 2015. The Sunday fundraiser, sponsored by Wendy's of LA, was a HUGE success, as we surpassed our goal of $100,000 thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 100 dedicated LA’s BEST supporters who cycled to raise money for the organization.
Led by the Cycle Committee and our BEST Friends Board, CYCLE 4 LA’s BEST teams pedaled for 50 minutes in 90-degree heat as funds from their supporters continued to roll in throughout the day, and by Monday, the event raised $111,203 for LA’s BEST After School Program!
