LA’s BEST Students Win 1st, 2nd and 3rd Place in Habitat for Humanity Door Design Contest!

Thirty-three LA's BEST school sites participated in the “Opening the Doors to Change” door design contest sponsored by Habitat for Humanity. They competed with other Los Angeles area elementary and middle schools to design and decorate a door to raise awareness about the need for affordable housing and the meaning of “home.” The contest was thrown by Habitat for Humanity to kick off Act! Speak! Build! Week, a national youth advocacy program that takes place April 6th -12, 2014.

With 43 entries submitted to Habitat for Humanity, LA's BEST placed first, second, and third, sweeping the elementary school category! A panel of artists, affordable housing advocates, and volunteers judged the entries based on creativity, artistic quality and originality.

Congratulations to LA’s BEST students at Valley View Elementary, who placed 1st in the contest with this door entry!

Politi Elementary School Winners were Kenia Andrade, Kevin Benitez, Sharon Cruz, Dilan Flores, Madeline Gonzalez, Emely Herrera, Tanya Herrera, Lily Herrera, Oscar Linderos, Giselle Patino, Joshua Pimentel, Jesua Rodriguez, Anderson Rodriguez, Celeste Santos, Abraham Victoria, Cristhian Montiel and LA's BEST site staff, Alba Garcia.

Congratulations to LA’s BEST students at Estrella Elementary school who placed in 3rd in the contest with this door entry!

Estrella Elementary Winners were Brenda Aviles, Jacsary Cortez, Stephanie Enlanche, Abdias Juan, Loraine Severino, Briana Vasquez, and LA's BEST Site Coordinator Christina Reyes.

LA’s BEST students, teachers and their parents were invited to a reception hosted by Habitat for Humanity at the Habitat ReStore in Norwalk, CA their to celebrate their achievement with other winners. All the winning doors will be on display at the store through April 12, 2014.
