"GOH2O!" Challenge Art Winners

During this past school year, 95 LA's BEST sites participated in the "GOH2O!" Challenge sponsored by The American Chemistry Council.

The American Chemistry Council's (ACC's) mission is to deliver business value through exceptional advocacy using best-in-class member performance, political engagement, communications and scientific research. LA's BEST and The ACC began the "GOH2O Challenge" partnership in 2009 to teach younger generations about the importance of recycling and keeping plastics out of the environment.  The challenge has distrubuted over 15,000 water bottles each year to LA's BEST students--that adds up to over 100,000 water bottles over the past six years!

Students learned about the importance of recycling, as well as the importance of drinking water. At the end of the project 75 sites and their students participated in an art contest. The top 12 schools had their pictures printed onto a 2015 custom calendar and each of the 12 sites won a cash prize of $250!

The top two schools, Esperanza and Wilshire Park, received a cash prize of $500 each. On Friday, Deceber 5th, a check presentation was held at Esperanza and their Principal, Mr. Rumble, received the check on LA's BEST behalf.

The kids celebrated with a Parfait Party provided by ACC and each child went home with a new 2015 GOH20 calendar!

The full list of winning sites included Bridge, Elysian Hts, Esperanza, Griffin, Lassen, Lawson Academy, Lockwood, Monte Vista, Panorama City, Ramona, and Wilshire Park.

We'd like to send a BIG thank you to our friends at the American Chemistry Council for being a long partner of LA's BEST and providing valuable knowledge to our students for the past six years.
