Cycle 4 LA's BEST raises over $103,000!
The 5th annual Cycle 4 LA’s BEST fundraising event, held at Leo Politi Elementary on Sunday April 6th, 2014, was a HUGE success, as we surpassed our goal of $80,000 thanks to the tireless efforts of more than 100 dedicated LA’s BEST supporters who cycled to raise money for the organization.
And the heat didn't stop any teams from dressing up in some crazy cycle attire!

Spearheaded by our BEST Friends Board, CYCLE 4 LA’s BEST teams pedaled for 50 minutes in 90-degree heat as funds from their supporters continued to roll in. The BEST Friends Board, celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, is a dedicated group of young professionals who volunteer, advocate and fundraise for LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program.

Thirty one teams participated in Cycle 4 LA’s BEST, and in the end, the Bucky Badgers on Bikes, led by team Captain and BEST Friends board member Michael Lynn, raised the most funds—pulling in over $13,000 and winning a pair of round-trip airline tickets donated by United Airlines. In second place, team La Dolce Vita, led by Best Friends board member Tian Mu, raised over almost $12,000. In a close third place, Team Travers, led by Board of Directors member David Travers raised just over $11,000.
“We are so excited to have raised over $102,000,but we’re not stopping,” says Mallory Maske, Co-chair of the Cycle 4 LA’s BEST committee. “There’s still time left to make a big difference in the lives of 28,000 kids.”

Team Wendy’s of LA, the event's main sponsor, not only cycled for LA’s BEST, but donated $10,000 and contributed 250 delicious salads for participants. LA’s BEST students joined in the fun, cheering on the cyclists and participating in fun physical activities led by BEST Fit, the nutrition and physical fitness program of LA’s BEST. The program is an example of “Expanded Learning” --education beyond the classroom.

Cycle 4 LA's BEST was such a HUGE success in part because Principal Brad Rumble graciously opened up his school, Leo Politi Elementary as the host location for the event. Leo Politi Elementary has been an LA's BEST site since 2000, and Principal Rumble was there with LA's BEST students cheering on cyclists and providing support to event staff.
