Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and CEO to be honored at June Dinner
At the LA's BEST Family Dinner on June 27, we will be recognizing outstanding supporters that help make LA's BEST After School possible. We are pleased to announce that that receiving the Foundation Partner Award will be William S. White and Charles Stewart Mott Foundation.
The Charles Stewart Mott Foundation affirms its founder’s vision of a world in which everyone is in partnership with the rest of the human race — where each individual’s quality of life is connected to the well-being of the community, locally and globally.
Charles Stewart Mott established the C.S. Mott Foundation in 1926, in response to his deep concern about the welfare of Flint, MI, as well as his abiding affection for his adopted community.
The Mott Foundation’s Pathways to Opportunity program supports initiatives around the U.S. that promote learning beyond the classroom especially for traditionally underserved children and youth — as a strategy for improving public education.
This grantmaking includes strengthening after school through technical assistance, research, evaluation and policy development, and by building public support. The Foundation also funds community schools internationally under its Civil Society program, as well as after school-related projects in Flint. Since 2002, Mott has generously supported LA’s BEST programs, operations, and staff.
Mott pursues its vision through grantmaking, communications and other activities designed to enhance community. The organizational culture highly values “respect, integrity and responsibility.” The Foundation seeks to strengthen, in people and their organizations, what Mr. Mott called “the capacity for accomplishment.” From its earliest origins, the Foundation’s major concern has been the well-being of all the components of a community— individuals, families, neighborhoods and civic organizations.
LA's BEST is happy to be recognizing such a stronger supporter of not only our program, but the larger after school movement across the nation.
