Hartley 2 Comet Flyby

Hartley 2 Comet Flyby

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and Congressman Xavier Becerra's office invited our students from Leo Politi Elementary to JPL’s headquarters to witness the comet Hartley 2 flyby, learn about comets through educational activities, and to meet Mr. Hartley, the discoverer of the comet. A NASA spacecraft that passed within 435 miles of the comet took photographs that will be used by NASA scientists to search for clues about how Earth and other planets formed and evolved.

Cinderella Panto Opening Night Gala

Cinderella Panto Opening Night Gala

On Saturday night, LA’s BEST supporters gathered at the El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood to see the Opening Night of Cinderella performed in the style of a traditional London panto. In a panto, a classic fairytale story is turned into a contemporary performance with songs from the current Billboard charts, male actors playing the traditionally female-held roles of the evil step-sisters and of course, audience participation which dazzles adults and children alike. Thanks to Lythgoe Family Productions, all proceeds from the gala benefited LA’s BEST. Special thanks to Presenting Sponsor DFS North America for their generous support. Following the performance, attendees enjoyed a magical fantasy dessert buffet and had the chance to meet and greet with their favorite cast members, including everyone’s favorite, “Blitzen,” the miniature white pony played by Little Man.
