Monte Marcaccini, Gianandrea Marcaccini, Giancarlo Marcaccini and Wes Schertz, co-owners of Van Nuys-based Villa Dolce Gelato, presented a $5000 check to LA’s BEST at Rosa Parks Learning Center. The donation reflects the proceeds from the sale of “LA’s BEST Vanilla Gelato,” created last year specifically to benefit LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program. The afternoon included a check presentation, dance performance by LA's BEST students, and a gelato party!
LA's BEST students from Manchester and South Park have been working with Dancing Classrooms Los Angeles for the past 10 weeks. They recently competed with several other LAUSD schools in a Ballroom Dancing competition. Manchester moves on to the Finals. Both teams showed off GREAT moves on the dance floor - look out for Manchester in Fuschia and South Park in Orange!
LA's BEST After School Enrichment Program held our 17th Annual Family Brunch held Sunday, June 3rd at the Beverly Hilton. This year we honored Best Buy Geek Squad Summer Academy with the Community Partner Awards, Miguel Melendez with the Distinguished Alumnus Award, and Nickelodeon with the Children's Champion Award. The show, hosted by Michaela Pereira, included performances by American Idol's Carly Smithson, the LA's BEST Dance Team from Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, and a video presentation made by students from LA's BEST at Gledhill Elementary.
In celebration of Earth Day, Vons provided Fair Elementary with an edible garden. Vons and LA’s BEST volunteers spend a Saturday building the garden, which includes herbs, fruit, and vegetables. The garden will be used to teach students about plant science and nutrition.
