Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Heads Back to After School
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa Visits LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program at Wilshire Park Elementary and Celebrates a $35,000 Gift to the LA’s BEST Field Trips Campaign
September 14, 2010
In true back to school spirit, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa returns to LA’s BEST to visit the diverse program at Wilshire Park Elementary School. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa will see the range of enriching, educational and recreational activities the program has to offer to its students each year. Although students are just returning to school, they will jump right into engaging literature, math, science, technology and sports activities, highlighting the breadth this program has to offer.
Mayor Villaraigosa and Carla Sanger, LA’s BEST President & CEO, will also accept a generous $35,000 contribution from Tom Dahlgren on behalf of Warren Resources, Inc., whose lead gift kicked off the first-ever Field Trips Campaign for LA’s BEST students. Due to recent budget cuts, LA’s BEST lost 40% of its transportation funding. The organization relies on these funds to send students to off-site educational and recreational programs at museums, cultural institutions and sporting and performing arts events, as well as its own citywide science and health fairs. Contributors to the campaign can vote online for LA’s BEST in the Pepsi Refresh Contest to help them win an additional $50,000 to fund field trips. If you would like to make a contribution to the campaign, please visit www.lasbest.org.
