Los Angeles, CA – LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program in the Los Angeles Unified School District was honored at the 31st Annual Golden Bell Awards program of the California School Boards Association.

The CSBA Golden Bell Awards program promotes excellence in education by recognizing outstanding programs in school districts and county offices of education throughout California. The Golden Bell Awards reflect the depth and breadth of the education programs necessary to address students’ changing needs. The goal of this awards program is to contribute to the development and evaluation of curriculum, instruction and support services.

The award was won in the Technology category for the LA’s BEST KidTech program, an eight-week program in computer basics and software applications. Upon completion of the program, students are awarded a free, refurbished desktop computer to take home. Students and their parents also participate in a culminating workshop to learn how to properly set up, manage and use a computer. Former Mayor and current LA’s BEST Board Member Richard Riordan is a founding supporter of the KidTech program.

“LA's BEST is the greatest gift that Mayor Tom Bradley and I gave to the City of Los Angeles,” said former Mayor Richard Riordan.

The Golden Bell Technology category award recognizes a program’s use of technology as an instructional tool which engages students in the curriculum, helps equip them for an increasingly technological society and job market and provides greater access to educational services.
