LA’s BEST 21st Annual Celebrate Science Fair with Comedian Shayla Rivera and ABC7’s Danny Romero
Students from the LA’s BEST After School Enrichment Program exhibit their science projects for the chance to win a trip to Yosemite Institute
April 15, 2012
Aerospace Engineer and Comedian Shayla Rivera will host the 21st Annual LA’s BEST Celebrate Science Fair with keynote speaker ABC7 Weathercaster Danny Romero at California State University, Los Angeles on Sunday, April 15, 2012. Seventeen science teams from elementary schools around the City of Los Angeles will compete to win a four-day trip to the Yosemite Institute, where they will experience hands-on science learning while exploring the landscapes of Yosemite National Park.
More than 70 young scientists will demonstrate their knowledge and research skills by presenting projects to a panel of judges made up of researchers from Amgen and the California Institute of Technology, an engineer and scientist from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), a high school Principal, a middle school administrator and former district science specialist, and a concept designer from Disney. Hundreds of family members and friends will be in attendance to support their students.
The citywide LA’s BEST Celebrate Science Fair is the annual culmination of the LA’s BEST Celebrate Science Program, in which students across Los Angeles engage in fun-filled, interactive science experiences utilizing the “team inquiry” model developed by LA’s BEST under the guidance of NASA’s JPL.
